Sturgeon Public School Division offers specialized preschool programs for children aged 2½ to 6 years. Screening is required for all programs.
Children accepted into Headstart must meet qualifications determined by Alberta Education. Children are assessed at screening sessions, which take place at our schools in spring.
Headstart is designed for young children who require some extra help in areas related to communication, social skills, physical development and psychological and emotional development.
Alberta Education sets the standards by which a child is deemed developmentally advanced. To be accepted into a preschool Enrichment program, children must be assessed at a screening session.
Enrichment focuses on academic enrichment for children whose early childhood readiness skills are considered advanced for their age.
Children typically enter the Program Unit Funded Initiative after being diagnosed with a severe disability or delay. This includes in the areas of communication, social, physical and emotional skills.
