Alberta is reviewing and updating the curriculum, which outlines what students are expected to learn from kindergarten through Grade 12.
Why change the curriculum?
Alberta is looking ahead to ensure the province’s curriculum continues to give all students the best possible start in life and meets the demands of living and working in the 21st century. The current curriculum is between eight and 30 years old. To ensure student success, our curriculum needs to be updated to be relevant, meaningful and engaging for all students.
Where are we in the process?
Over the next six years, curriculum development will focus on Arts Education, Language Arts (English, French Language Arts, Français), Mathematics, Social Studies, Sciences, and Wellness Education. Curriculum for all six subjects will be developed at the same time to ensure a common design throughout the programs of study.
The work will be completed in three phases: shaping, developing and implementing. We are currently in the shaping phase, which includes:
Take the online curriculum survey (closes November 18, 2016)
