Pre-Kindergarten is designed to give your child the best possible start in school. Important social, mental, emotional and physical skills are nurtured and developed in a fun, playful manner. As a result, young children are excited to come to school, enthused about learning and better positioned to reach their potential.
Sturgeon Public Schools has specialized Pre-Kindergarten programs for children between the ages of 2 years, 8 months and 4 years, 7 months as of September 1st. Our program is offered at all Sturgeon Public Elementary Schools, four to five half days per week during the school year. We also offer an Intergenerational Pre-Kindergarten Program at Chateau Sturgeon Lodge in Legal.
Children with mild/moderate needs, or those who have advanced cognitive skills are eligible to attend in the year prior to Kindergarten. Those children who qualify for Program Unit Funding (PUF) may be eligible for two years of Pre-Kindergarten programming based on age of entry.
Children accepted into Pre-Kindergarten must meet qualifications as determined by the Special Education Coding Criteria from Alberta Education. Contact the Early Childhood Education Department at 780-939-4341 Ext. 1257 for more information.
