Internet Safety Presentations
All Sturgeon Public Schools families are invited to attend the two internet safety presentations happening this month at Bon Accord Community School.
The details are as follows:
Session 1: Northern Alberta Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE)
Date: Wednesday January 18th
Time: 6:00-8:00pm
Location: BACS gymnasium
Description:
The Northern Alberta Internet Child Exploitation Unit investigates incidents of child luring, sextortion, possession, transmission, and the making of child pornography as well as internet-related voyeurism involving youth. This presentation will focus on education, prevention, and putting parents and teachers in a position to protect their children from online sexual exploitation. The presenters will discuss the role of ICE in Alberta, current applications and internet platforms, and additional resources which are available to parents so they will be able to better support healthy and productive online experiences for their children and teens.
Session 2: SAFFRON Center "Foundations of Connection"
Date: Monday January 30th
Time: 6:00-8:00pm
Location: BACS gymnasium
Description:
In this presentation, we will begin by defining the elements of healthy relationships including boundaries and consent. The goal of the first half is to educate parents and/or professionals on language they can use to teach children. The second half is dedicated to healthy parent-child relationships; how to develop healthy habits with your children and how to teach them about consent, conflict, and how to recognize healthy or unhealthy behaviours in others.
